Homeschool Afloat

The Crumpler Family from Georgia extend their homeschooling to a learning experience afloat and took a Basic powerboating course aboard "Red Dog". Here are the young students' perspectives of their class.

Florida Sailing and Cruisng School
on the "Red Dog"
By Caitlin Crumpler (age 12)

I learned much while at the Florida Sailing and Cruising School. I can now turn a 40 foot boat on an axis. Ivan, the teacher, knows much about boating. He can teach you at least 7 different kinds of knots to do on a boat. Days were packed with knowledge. We learned all the signals to give other boats. The signals came in handy some other places.

Not only will you learn about boats, you will also learn about the native wild life such as Bat-Rays, Manatees, and dolphins. We were lucky enough to have a pair of dolphins chase our boat and do tricks beside it. It was some of the most spectacular things I have ever seen.

If I know one thing, it's that the Florida Sailing and Cruising School won't let you get bored. They always have something new for you to do.

My Experience at the boating school was excellent! I never got bored. I didn't think any boating school could be fun until I came here. Our teacher, Ivan, spent a whole day teaching us to master turning around in a 360 degree circle (with skill) and taught us some amazing boat facts and stories. On the last day we saw two dolphins that swam by us and some incredible bat rays that hovered on the water.

The boat we learned on was the "Red Dog". The "Red Dog" was a terrific boat. My sister and I slept on the bow of the boat and had a great time. My Mom and Dad slept on the stern of the boat. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Thank you Florida Sailing and Cruising School.

Sincerely,
Cameron Crumpler (age 10)

Editor's Note: Caitlin and Cameron did bring their Mom & Dad (who are also teachers) along for this learning experience. Congratulations to the whole family on completing P101!
